What: On January 30, 2026, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published a request for information (RFI) seeking input on the potential adoption of diagnostic imaging technical standards and certification criteria for health information technology (IT) under the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) Health IT Certification Program (Certification Program).
Why: Responses to this RFI will be used to inform potential future rulemaking aimed at better enabling the access, exchange, and use of diagnostic images by health care providers and patients. HHS’s RFI invites public comments to help explore the best and least burdensome ways to support the access, exchange, and use of electronic health information, including diagnostic images, through the adoption of standards and the certification of health IT under the Certification Program.
Action: Review the RFI and submit comments to HHS on or before the March 16, 2026, deadline.
