EPA Announces Public Meetings to Discuss Draft Drinking Water Contaminant List

WWhat: On May 28, 2026, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a series of public meetings to discuss the draft Sixth Contaminant Candidate List (CCL).

Why: The draft CCL was published on April 6, 2026, and consists of 75 chemicals, 4 chemical groups (including microplastics and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances [PFAS]), and nine microbes. The chemicals on the list are currently not regulated but are anticipated to occur in public water systems and may require regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) in the future.

The CCL serves as a first level of evaluation for unregulated drinking water contaminants that may need further investigation. Contaminants from the list with sufficient health effects could be considered for rulemaking under SDWA.

The EPA is announcing five virtual meetings to discuss the draft CCL:

  • June 15, 2026, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET
  • June 29, 2026, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET
  • June 30, 2026, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET
  • July 1, 2026, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET
  • August 26, 2026, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET

Action: Information on how to attend the meetings can be found on the Science Advisory Board’s landing page at https://sab.epa.gov.
