DOW Seeks Input on TSCA Rules for Defense – Related Chemical Uses

What: On May 12, 2026, the U.S. Department of War (DOW) issued a request for information (RFI) to gather insight into the use of chemicals undergoing Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) risk evaluation and management in defense-related applications.

Why: Through the RFI, the DOW aims to gain a deeper understanding of how defense industries utilize chemicals undergoing TSCA risk evaluation and management. Although the RFI requests information on specific chemicals, DOW is interested in any chemicals impacted by the defense industry. The RFI is intended to:

  • Identify defense applications that rely on certain TSCA Section 6 existing chemicals.
  • Understand the criticality of those chemicals within the Defense Industrial Base.
  • Support supply chain resilience and regulatory preparedness efforts.
  • Inform ongoing Chemical and Material Risk Management Program (CMRMP) activities.

DOW plans to release subsequent RFIs in the future to request information on additional TSCA chemicals. Responses are for DOW informational purposes only. The agency will use the information to better ascertain the potential impact of future TSCA regulations.

Action: Read the RFI and submit your responses by the June 19, 2026, deadline.
