EPA Announces Draft Framework for Interagency Collaboration on the Review of Potential for Resistance from Antibacterial and Antifungal Pesticides
On July 2, 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a draft framework for expanding federal collaboration on the review of antibacterial and antifungal pesticides for public comment. This framework outlines a process for EPA’s collaboration with other federal agencies to consider input when EPA evaluates antibacterial and antifungal pesticide products that may adversely impact the efficacy of human or animal drugs.
The framework describes EPA’s intent to create a federal interagency working group with subject matter experts from across the federal government. This would generally apply to pesticides that have the potential to cause resistance with a medically important human or animal drug and would allow the EPA to consult with the working group when drafting assessments for pesticides covered by the framework.
The comment period will close on August 1, 2024.
