Corps of Engineers Releases Latest Round of Draft Nationwide Permits

What: On June 18, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) issued its latest round of draft nationwide permits (NWP) in the Federal Register. NWPs authorize activities that will result in no more than minimal individual and cumulative adverse environmental effects.

Why: NWPs require less time and expense to obtain than individual permits because they apply to general types of activities as opposed to specific projects. The Corps is proposing to reissue its existing NWPs with modifications intended to reduce burdens on the regulated public. The agency is also proposing one new NWP authorizing activities to improve the passage of fish and other aquatic organisms through aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, the Corps is proposing to modify two of the 2021 NWPs (NWP 48 for commercial shellfish mariculture activities and NWP 56 for finfish mariculture activities) to address litigation on those NWPs.

Action: Comments are due July 18, 2025.
