What: On June 26, 2026, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced that it is seeking input for a performance evaluation of the California Coastal Management Program (CCMP).
Why: The CCMP regulates development along the state’s coastline and is run by the California Coastal Commission. The Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA) requires NOAA to review the performance of federally approved coastal management programs, including the CCMP.
During the evaluation, NOAA will consider the extent to which California has addressed the coastal management needs identified in the CZMA and adhered to the terms of any CZMA-funded grant, loan, or cooperative agreement.
As part of the evaluation, NOAA will be holding an in-person public meeting on August 10, 2026, at the Santa Monica Hotel and Suites; 1707 4th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401. NOAA will also hold two virtual public meetings on August 11 and 12, 2026.
Anyone can attend and present a statement at these meetings, but NOAA is particularly seeking information from the following industries:
- Spaceport infrastructure.
- Offshore oil production.
- Pipeline maintenance.
- Desalination projects.
- Undersea cables.
To ensure full consideration by NOAA, oral comments must be in English. Comments that are not in English may not be transcribed or considered by NOAA.
Action: Comments are due August 22, 2026, and must be emailed to czma.california-evaluation@noaa.gov.
- Register for the August 11 or 12, 2026, meetings by August 10.
- Register for the August 10, 2026, public meeting by sending an email to czma.california-evaluation@noaa.gov by August 8.
