EPA Publishes Draft Scope for the Risk Evaluation of Vinyl Chloride Under the TSCA
What: On January 16, 2025, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published the draft scoping document for the risk evaluation of Vinyl chloride under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The scope document contains the conditions of use, hazards, exposures, and potentially exposed or susceptible subpopulations that EPA expects to consider in the risk evaluation of a chemical substance. This is the first scope document for the five chemicals EPA designated as high priority in December 2024.
Why: Vinyl chloride is a gas primarily used in the manufacture and processing of plastic materials like polyvinyl chloride (PVC), plastic resins, and other chemicals. Many of these materials are used for pipes, insulating materials, and consumer goods.
