On December 28, 2021, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine published a report that reviewed the Department of Energy’s methods for setting energy efficiency standards. On May 13, 2022, Advocacy filed a public comment letter to the Department of Energy requesting that the agency reopen the public comment period on its final “2021 Process Rule” and the concurrent proposed rulemaking. Advocacy stated that the report’s findings on the Department of Energy’s process justify giving the public an additional opportunity to review and provide comment on the rules.
