On June 13, 2019 the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service (Service) published a proposed rule to revise National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations. According to the Service, the revisions would speed up the pace for making determinations, while still maintaining the goals of the Act. The revisions would update various sections of the Act including more public engagement, and definitions of categorical exclusions. On August 9, 2019 the Service extended the comment period for the proposed rule. Comments are now due by August 26, 2019.
