FCC Releases Agenda and Draft Proposals for June Open Commission Meeting

The FCC’s next open meeting will be on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 10:30 AM ET. The Commission has released a tentative agenda for the meeting. The Commission will consider the following three rules during this meeting:

  • Obsolete Cable Rules – The FCC is aiming to simplify and streamline burdensome cable rate regulations. The agency intends to eliminate unnecessary forms and rules, exempt small cable companies from rate regulations, limit regulations to residential subscribers, and otherwise reduce regulatory burdens.
  • Engineering Review for Broadband Data Collection – The FCC is considering a rule that would eliminate the professional engineer certification requirement for the biannual Broadband Data Collection. Instead, companies that submit Broadband Data Collection will need a “qualified engineer” who has lower levels of certification necessary.
  • Modernizing Text Telephony (TTY) Rules – The FCC is considering a proposed rule to delete a provision that requires telecommunications relay services providers to support the now obsolete American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) transmission format. Removing the ASCII requirement will reduce costs, eliminate an outdated regulatory requirement, and update the Commission’s Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) standards to be more consistent with current usage of TTY-based relay service.

Is your small business or entity being impacted by a proposed rule? If yes, write a comment letter to the proposing agency.
