FWS Lists Texas Kangaroo Rat as Endangered, Proposes Critical Habitat
On August 17, 2023, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) published a proposed rule in the Federal Register listing the Texas Kangaroo Rat as an endangered species.
Additionally, FWS proposes to designate approximately 597,069 acres (241,625 hectares) in Childress, Cottle, Hardeman, Wichita, and Wilbarger Counties, Texas as critical habitat for the species.
FWS has certified that the proposed critical habitat designation will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small business entities.
Comments on the proposed rule are due October 16, 2023. Requests for a public hearing must be received by October 2, 2023.
