Steve Owen
Born and raised in California, Steve Owen is a first-generation American. As the Region 9 Advocate, Steve brings with him a broad range of experience to this position. His professional background includes extensive experience working with tech startups and senior management roles with KPMG and Apple.
Steve is also an economist, with a bachelor’s degree from the University of California and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics. He is a lecturer at the University of California, Santa Cruz, teaching business classes, and has also taught graduate-level cost-benefit analysis classes at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.
He leverages real-world experience to assist small businesses in Region 9 by identifying excessive and non-value-adding regulations. Steve’s goal is to let “business do business” without being bogged down by unnecessary bureaucracy.
As the Regional Advocate for Region 9, Steve is the voice in Washington, D.C. for over 5 million small businesses in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and the U.S. Pacific Territories.
