OMB Requests Information on Public and Community Engagement with the Federal Government
On March 20, 2024, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) published a request for information on how communities and individual members of the public engage with the federal government.
OMB is seeking input on the experiences of individuals and organizations with informing federal government decision-making and participating in activities with federal agencies. OMB is also looking for examples of leading practices, and other recommendations on available methods, approaches, and tools that could assist members of the public and communities in engaging with the federal government.
Specifically, OMB seeks information on the following topics:
- Experiences individuals and organizations, including from underserved communities, have had in participating (or trying to participate) in federal government activities (e.g., notice and comment processes, requests for information, consultations, listening sessions, customer feedback surveys, user research, crowdsourcing) that inform government decision-making;
- Content to incorporate in a federal framework for public and community engagement, including common guidelines and leading practices that can help federal employees better use these methods; and
- How OMB might continue to pursue a collaborative process to co-develop such a framework with the public.
OMB will review and consider responses to this request as the agency develops a federal framework for public and community engagement.
Responses to the Request for Information are due May 17, 2024.
