FWS Extends Comment Period on Proposal for Permits for Incidental Take of Eagles
On September 30, 2022, the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service published a proposed rule revising the regulations concerning the incidental take of eagles and eagle nests. The proposed rule would continue to authorize specific permits but would also create a general permit for certain activities. Such activities may include wind-energy generation projects or power line infrastructure projects that may disturb bald eagles and their nests. The Service also proposed to remove the third-party monitoring requirements from incidental take permits. The Service has extended the comment period on the proposed rule by an additional 30 days.
