DOE Seeks Comments on Withdrawal of Energy Conservation Standards for Residential Furnaces and Commercial Water Heaters
On January 29, 2019, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (DOE) issued an extension of the comment period for a notice of petition for rulemaking to withdraw energy efficiency standards for residential furnaces and commercial water heaters. Based on the petition for rulemaking, the agency is considering whether it should issue an interpretative rule stating that the current proposed energy conservation standards would result in the unavailability of performance characteristics and should thus withdraw the proposed rule. Comments are now due by March 1, 2019.
