EPA Extends Comment Period for 6-PPD ANPRM

What: On November 19, 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sought advance comment on a proposed rule that will regulate N-(1,3-Dimethylbutyl)-N?-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (6PPD) and its transformation product, 6PPD-quinone (6PPD-q) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The comment period has been extended to March 24, 2025.

Why: EPA is seeking information on 6PPD and 6PPD-q that could inform potential future rulemaking, including information on the chemical’s environmental effects, effects on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, potential human health effects, exposure pathways, additional uses of the chemicals, and information on alternatives to 6PPD.

Action: Submit comments on the proposed rule via regulations.gov.
