EPA Proposes Risk Management of Colour Index Pigment Violet 29 Under TSCA
What: On January 14, 2025, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a proposed risk management rule for the risk management of Colour Index Pigment Violet 29 (PV29) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). PV29 is used in paints and coatings in the automobile industry, in plastic and rubber products, and commercial printing, among other uses.
Why: In September 2022, the EPA determined that PV29 presented an unreasonable risk to workers. The proposed risk management rule seeks to protect workers from inhalation exposure to PV29 by requiring respiratory protection and cleaning programs in workplaces where PV29 is used in its dry powder form.
Action: Comments on the proposed risk management rule are due February 28, 2025.
