Advocacy Recommends MSHA Extend Comment Period for Proposed Silica Rule

The SBA Office of Advocacy has filed a public comment letter recommending that the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) extend the comment period for its Respirable Crystalline Silica rule by at least 60 days. MSHA’s proposed silica rule was published in the Federal Register on July 13, 2023, and would set a permissible exposure limit for respirable crystalline silica, require sampling and other corrective measures, and establish regulatory standards to improve respiratory protection for airborne hazards.

Comments on the proposed MSHA silica rule are currently due by August 28, 2023.
