FTC Releases ANPR on Commercial Surveillance and Data Security

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has released an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) requesting public comment on commercial surveillance and data security practices that may harm consumers. The FTC is seeking input from the public on whether it should adopt new regulations restricting the ways companies can collect and monetize consumer data to prevent unfair or deceptive trade practices.

Submit public comments on the proposed rule by October 21, 2022.

Comments received, as well as all Commission documents for the proceeding, are available to the public at Regulations.gov.

The FTC will also host a public forum on September 8, 2022 from 2PM until 7:30PM. Members of the public can register to attend via the FTC webpage for the event.
