DOI Seeks Comments on Proposed Rule to Revise Critical Habitat Designation for the Western Population Segment of Yellow-Billed Cuckoo

On February 27, 2020 the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), published a proposed rule to revise the critical habitat distinct population segment of the yellow-billed cuckoo. The proposed rule would designate 493,665 acres for designation in seven western states. Designating these areas as critical habitat would extend protections to the species and either prohibit certain activities on these lands or require obtaining a special permit. Written comments are due by April 27, 2020.
