DOC’s National Marine Fisheries Service seeks comments on Proposed Traceability Information Program for Seafood

On October 11, 2018, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) published a proposed rule to establish registration, record-keeping, and reporting requirements for domestic producers of shrimp and abalone. The rule would provide traceability information for these species from the point of production to entry into U.S. commerce. The Service has stated the rule will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities, though they have not certified the rule and seek comment on this and a number of other issues. Comments are due by November 26, 2018.
