ABOUT US
Who We Are
We speak up for small business.
As the independent voice for small business in the federal government, we make sure agencies consider how their regulations affect Main Street. We do this through economic research, regulatory advocacy, and real-world input from small businesses across the country.
Another way we support small business voices is through the Red Tape Hotline.
Who We Are
Our job is to make sure small businesses are heard, especially when federal agencies create new regulations, policies, or programs.
We work with federal agencies to ensure that new rules and regulations are not unfairly harmful or burdensome to small businesses. Our team of attorneys engages with rule makers throughout the process, ensuring that your voices are heard in Washington.
We also conduct economic research, track trends, and listen directly to small business owners across the country to understand what’s working and what’s not. Then we advocate on their behalf to reduce regulatory burdens and shape smarter policy.
We don’t issue loans or grants. We help shape the rules that affect your business.

What We Do
Regulatory Advocacy. Before any major federal regulation is finalized, agencies are required to consider its impact on small businesses. That’s where we step in.
- We review proposed rules and provide formal comments
- We organize roundtables and feedback sessions
- We push for flexibility when one-size-fits-all regulations won’t work
Economic Research. Our team of economists publishes data and reports that give policymakers, researchers, and the public a clearer view of the small business economy.
- Employment trends
- Demographic data
- Access to capital
- Startups and entrepreneurship
Our research is available to the public in various forms.
Regional Representation. Advocacy has regional advocates located throughout the U.S. They connect directly with small business owners in their communities and bring real-world insights back to Washington.
Why It Matters
Small businesses power the U.S. economy, but their voices can get lost in the noise of federal policymaking.
The Office of Advocacy makes sure that doesn’t happen. Because we are independent, we’re able to:
- Challenge burdensome regulations before they take effect
- Offer data-backed insights to Congress and agencies
- Highlight stories and trends from the ground up
Your voice. Your data. Your advocate.
