WASHINGTON, D.C. – Christine Myers has been appointed to serve as the SBA Office of Advocacy’s Region 2 Advocate. In this role, Myers will advocate on behalf of small businesses in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She will work with small business owners, state and local government agencies, state legislators, and small business associations to help the Office of Advocacy voice the region’s small business concerns before the White House, federal agencies and Congress.
“Region 2 is in great hands with Christine Myers,” said Acting Chief Counsel Major L. Clark, III. “Myers’ extensive knowledge in start-up growth strategies and business ownership makes her well qualified for this role.”
“As a former small business owner, I know, first-hand how some government regulations can harm small business and how critical it is to have a voice in the federal government,” said Christine Myers.
Myers, a former telecommunications executive and technology consultant, comes to Advocacy with a strong background in developing and implementing growth strategies for global companies and start-ups. Prior to joining the Office of Advocacy, Myers co-owned and operated two family food businesses. Myers was elected to the Morris County, N.J., Board of Chosen Freeholders in 2015, where she spearheaded the economic development efforts at the county governing board. Myers will be based in SBA’s Region 2 headquarters in New York City.
The Office of Advocacy has regional advocates to represent each of the 10 federal regions, and a Rural Affairs Advocate who represents rural areas in all regions. The advocates help identify new issues and concerns of small business owners. They work closely with local government officials, state officials and legislators, and the Chief Counsel for Advocacy to develop programs and policies that support small business growth.
