EPA Announces Two Public Meetings of the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals

What: On June 22, 2026, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced two virtual public meetings of the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC).

Why: The SACC provides independent advice and recommendations to the EPA on the scientific and technical aspects of risk assessments, methodologies, and pollution prevention measures and approaches for chemicals regulated by the EPA.

The first meeting will be held on July 23, 2026. During the meeting, the SACC will consider the scope and clarity of questions for the peer review of technical documents associated with the risk evaluations for the following chemicals:

  • 1,2-dichloropropane (1,2-DCP), a chemical used in cleaning and furnishing care products, including all-purpose liquid spray cleaner, all-purposes waxes and polishes, and all-purpose liquid cleaners and polishes.
  • 1,1,2-trichloroethane (1,1,2-TCA), a chemical used in adhesives and sealants.
  • Trans-1,2-dichloroethylene (tDCE), a chemical used in degreasers, lubricants and solvents.
  • 4,4?-(1-Methylethylidene)bis[2, 6-dibromophenol] (TBBPA), a chemical used in flame retardants, electronic products, batteries, fabric, textile and leather products, and building and construction materials.
  • Ethylene dibromide (EDB), a chemical used as a fuel agent in petroleum refineries.

The second meeting will be held August 3 through August 7, 2026, to consider the draft technical support documents and public comments for the chemicals listed above.

The EPA will consider recommendations from this SACC review and public comments in the development of the final chemical risk evaluations, which may inform other EPA efforts related to the regulation of these chemicals.

Action: To present oral comments at the July meeting, you must register by July 15, 2026. To present oral comments at the August meeting, you must register by July 27, 2026. For participants not wishing to submit oral comments, registration will remain open until the end of each meeting.

You must submit written comments by July 21, 2026, for the July meeting and by July 23, 2026, for the August meeting.
