Corps of Engineers Finalizes Latest Round of Nationwide Permits

What: On January 8, 2026, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) issued its latest round of nationwide permits (NWP) in the Federal Register. NWPs authorize activities that will result in no more than minimal individual and cumulative adverse environmental effects.

Why: NWPs require less time and expense to obtain than individual permits because they apply to general types of activities as opposed to specific projects. The Corps reissued 56 of 57 of its existing NWPs with modifications intended to reduce burdens on the regulated public. The agency also issued one new NWP authorizing activities to improve the passage of fish and other aquatic organisms through aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, the Corps did not reissue NWP 56 for finfish mariculture activities.

Action: The new NWPs will go into effect on March 15, 2026, and expire on March 15, 2031.
