Supply Chain Gaps and Entrepreneur Assistance

What: On May 1, 2026, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) published a request for information (RFI) seeking comment regarding supply chain gaps in critical industries and how entrepreneur technical assistance could be aligned to increase business growth and technology development in needed industries. Information received in response to this request will inform SBA’s efforts to build innovation networks in critical industries.

Why: The SBA aims to assist small businesses and entrepreneurs in strengthening and diversifying critical supply chains. However, the agency currently lacks detailed information about the most significant gaps and chokepoints that hinder firms from entering or growing in these markets. To address this, the SBA is seeking public comments to identify specific vulnerabilities in the supply chain, understand the barriers to small business participation—such as financing issues, lack of technical capacity, contracting challenges, and information gaps—and determine what types of assistance would be most effective. This assistance could include capital, counseling, contracting support, or new initiatives. The agency plans to use the feedback gathered to inform potential program changes and develop new efforts aimed at building more resilient and competitive supply chains by better integrating small businesses and startups into federal, state, local, and private-sector production and procurement networks.

Action: Read the RFI and submit comments before the May 18, 2026, deadline.
