FDA Requests Information to Address Unused Opioids in American Homes

What: On March 5, 2026, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a Request for Information (RFI) seeking public comments on potential new standards for in-home opioid disposal products.

Why: FDA’s RFI seeks input from industry, health care providers, and advocates appropriate criteria for in-home opioid disposal kits. This aligns with the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025, which mandates the FDA to issue guidance to facilitate the in-home safe disposal of opioids.

Action: Read the RFI and submit comments before the April 6, 2026, deadline.
