EPA Extends Greenhouse Gas Reporting Rule Deadline

What: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is extending the 2025 reporting deadline for the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Rule from March 31, 2026, to October 30, 2026.

Why: The EPA has been collecting GHG reporting data for the past 16 years from stationary sources, such as power plants and manufacturing facilities. While this data has been used for past EPA regulatory efforts, it does not have a specific purpose under the Clean Air Act.

In September 2025, the EPA proposed changes to the GHG reporting rule and anticipated finalizing substantive GHGRP changes by March 2026. EPA anticipates finalizing its changes to the rule by July 2026. Extending the compliance deadline will allow regulated entities to respond to these changes.

Action: The extension is effective February 27, 2026.
