CPSC Proposes Ban on Certain Aerosol Duster Products

On July 31, 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a proposed rule to declare that any aerosol duster products containing more than 18 mg in any combination of HFC-152a and/or HFC-134a are banned as hazardous substances under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. These products are commonly used for cleaning electronics.

The proposed rule would apply to all manufacturers and importers of aerosol duster products. CPSC identified 31 firms that would be impacted by the proposed rule, 26 of which are manufacturers of aerosol duster products and 5 are wholesalers/importers. Among the 26 manufacturers of aerosol duster products, 20 are small entities.

Comments on the proposed rule are due September 30, 2024.
