DOE Requests Information on Energy Industry Practices Related to Mitigation of Vulnerabilities in Bulk-Power System Supply Chain
On July 8, 2020 the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published a request for information to understand energy industry practices related to identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities in the bulk-power supply chain. On July 21, 2020, DOE extended the comment period for the RFI to August 24, 2020. Pursuant to Executive Order 13920 (EO) issued on May 4, 2020, threats by foreign adversaries to the bulk power system are a national emergency. The EO directs DOE in consultation with several other agencies to issue regulations addressing the concerns outlined in the EO related to securing the U.S.’ bulk power system. The agency currently seeks comments from the energy industry on current practices to address vulnerabilities, and specifically what challenges EO 13920 could present to small businesses. Comments are due by August 24, 2020.
