DOE Seeks Comments on Reviews of Energy Conservation Standards
The U.S. Department of Energy is requesting comments and information on reviews of several current energy conservation standards for the below listed products. In each review the agency seeks to determine whether to amend efficiency standards, and whether it is technologically feasible and economically justifiable to do so. The agency is also evaluating the impact on small entities, and the public is invited to submit specific small business considerations. The standards open for comment are as follows:
- Reopening of Comment Period on Energy Conservation Test Procedures for Consumer Water Heaters and Residential-Duty Commercial Water Heaters. The agency is reopening a previously expired comment period.

- Proposed Energy Conservation Test Procedure for Room Air Conditioners and Announcement of Public Meeting. The agency is announcing an open comment period and the availability of a public meeting to solicit comments and feedback on a proposed rulemaking to amend test procedures for room air conditioners. The webinar will take place on July 8, 2020 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. If no participants register for the webinar by June 25, 2020, it will be cancelled.

- Energy Conservation Standards for Small Electric Motors. The agency has determined that more stringent standards would not be cost-effective and seeks comments on this determination.

- Energy Conservation Test Procedure and Standards for Commercial Prerinse Spray Valves. The agency seeks information and data to consider whether to amend test procedures and standards. Separately, the agency seeks comments that could enable a “no-new-standard” determination.

- Energy Conservation Test Procedure for Illuminated Exit Signs. The agency seeks information and data to consider whether to amend test procedures and standards.

- Energy Conservation Test Procedure for Electric Motors. The agency seeks information and data to consider whether to amend test procedures and standards.

- Energy Conservation Standards for Certain Commercial and Industrial Equipment; Early Assessment Review; Refrigerated Bottled or Canned Beverage Vending Machines. The agency seeks comments on whether to amend conservation standards and seeks specific data that could enable a “no-new-standard” determination.
