USDA Seeks Comments on Proposed Rule to Protect from Undue and Unreasonable Preference Under the Packers and Stockyards Act
On Jan. 13, 2020, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) published a proposed rule to protect fair trade, financial integrity and competitive marketing for livestock, meat and poultry under the Packers and Stockyards Act. The rule would specify criteria the Secretary of Agriculture would consider when determining whether a violation of the Act has occurred. AMS does not expect the proposed rule to have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities but seeks public comment on this point and the rule in its entirety. Public comments are due by March 13, 2020.
