FCC Announces Comment Period for Draft Proposal to Modernize Unbundling and Resale Rules
On January 6, 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register that would update the FCC’s unbundling and resale rules. In its proposal, the FCC states that it intends to remove unnecessary regulatory burdens while recognizing that current unbundling requirements may have continued benefits in providing broadband access to consumers where facilities-based competition is less likely to occur.
The initial comment period closes on February 5, 2020, and reply comments are due on March 5, 2020.
