Forest Service Seeks Comments on Proposed Rule for Roadless Area Conservation on National Forest System Lands in Alaska
On October 17, 2019 the United States Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service published a proposed rule to exempt the Tongass National Forest from the 2001 Roadless Rule. The rule prohibits tree harvest and road construction/reconstruction within roadless areas. This proposed rule will also provide a procedure for correcting and modifying inventoried boundaries on the Chugach National Forest. The Forest Service is certifying that this rule will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities. Written comments on the proposed rule are due by December 16, 2019.
