DOI Seeks Comments on Threatened Species Status for the West Coast Distinct Population Segment of Fisher
On January 31, 2019, the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service issued a proposed rule to reopen the comment period for listing the West Coast Distinct Population Segment (DPS) of fisher. On October 7, 2014, the Service published a proposed rule to list the DPS of fisher as threatened. Subsequently, on April 18, 2016, this proposed rule was withdrawn, and the agency concluded that stressors acting on the DPS were not sufficient to warrant the listing. On September 21, 2018, the District Court for the Northern District of California vacated the listing withdrawal and remanded the Service’s final determination for reconsideration. This action is a result of that court order. Comments are due by March 4, 2018.
