National Marine Fisheries Service Announces Two Public Meetings on Proposed Oceanic Whitetip Shark Regulations

On August 5, 2024, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announced two public meetings to discuss the proposed rule to apply protective regulations to the Oceanic Whitetip Shark (Carcharhinus longimanus) under the Endangered Species Act that was published on May 14, 2024.

Areas impacted by the proposed rule include Hawai’i, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), and American Samoa.

An in-person meeting is scheduled for August 20, 2024, at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Resort, Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i. Doors will open at 5:30 PM Hawaii Standard Time (HST).

The informational meeting will begin at 6 PM HST, and the public hearing will begin at 7 PM HST.

A virtual meeting will be held on August 21, 2024, beginning at 8 PM HST. The public hearing portion of the meeting will begin at 9 PM HST.
