Spotlighting Rural Small Business

Rural businesses, which are found in non-metropolitan areas, provide farm-to-table produce to local restaurants and residents. These communities frequently rely on small businesses to drive their economy. Further, farmers’ markets are popular networks to aid in economic growth. These markets allow locals the opportunity to introduce their products without expensive overhead while connecting with others in their community.

The Office of Advocacy assists rural small businesses with their federal regulatory issues. In recognition of rural small farmers, please see the information below.

  • 54.3 percent of small business jobs are rural.
  • Small businesses operate 84.8 percent of establishments in rural counties.
  • Most rural establishments employ less than 500 people.
