DOI Seeks Comments on Proposed Designation of Critical Habitat for the Northern Mexican and Narrow-Headed Gartersnakes
On April 28, 2020, the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service issued a revised proposed rule and revised economic analysis for a proposal to designate critical habitat for the Northern Mexican and Narrow-Headed Gartersnakes. The proposal includes several counties in New Mexico and Arizona. Designating these areas as critical habitat would extend protections to the species and either prohibit certain activities on these lands or require obtaining a special permit. Written comments are due by June 29, 2020.
