DOE Seeks Comments on Energy Conservation Standards and Test Procedures for Small Electric Motors and Electric Motors
On April 9, 2019, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (DOE) published a request for information on whether to amend the energy conservation standards for small electric motors. The request solicits information from the public to help determine whether amending the standards would result in significant energy savings and whether the amendments would be technologically feasible and economically justified. Written comments on the request for information are due by May 24, 2019.
Subsequently on April 23, 2019, DOE published a notice of proposed rulemaking and request for comment on modifications to the test procedures for small electric motors and separately categorized electric motors. The proposed rulemaking would incorporate additional industry standards to the two that are already incorporated as options when testing the efficiency of these types of equipment, among other modifications. Written comments on the test-procedures proposed rule are due by June 24, 2019.
