USDA Seeks Comments on Proposal to Withdraw Organic Standards for Livestock and Poultry Practices

On December 18, 2017, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) published a proposed rule to withdraw the Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices final rule published in January 2017.

The final rule amended the organic livestock and poultry production requirements by adding provisions for living conditions, livestock handling and transport for slaughter, and clarifies existing requirements for livestock care and production practices. The rule was scheduled to take effect on March 20, 2017. The effective date was extended, by a separate AMS action, to May 14, 2018.
