OIRA Announces Listening Sessions on Public Participation in the Rulemaking Process
On June 27, 2024, the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) announced that it will be holding two public listening sessions to gather input on federal agency efforts to better involve members of the public in the rulemaking process.
The listening sessions will be virtual and held on July 10, 2024, at 3 PM ET, and July 17, 2024, at 1 PM ET. Members of the public may register by sending an email to publicparticipation@omb.eop.gov, noting the session they would like to attend.
The listening sessions will focus on how federal agencies are implementing the OIRA’s July 2023 guidance on Broadening Public Participation and Community Engagement in the Regulatory Process. The purpose of the guidance was to instruct agencies on how to promote equitable and meaningful participation by a range of interested and affected parties, including members of underserved communities, during the regulatory process.
At the listening sessions, OIRA will be seeking feedback on the following three topic areas: (1) the Regulatory Agenda as a platform for highlighting past and future opportunities for public participation; (2) experience with effective opportunities for public engagement in the regulatory process; and (3) opportunities for strengthening public participation and community engagement in the regulatory process.
Members of the public who cannot attend the listening sessions and wish to submit written comments should do so by sending comments to publicparticipation@omb.eop.gov before July 17, 2024.
