FWS Proposes Critical Habitat for the Dixie Valley Toad

On May 30, 2024, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) published a proposed rule designating critical habitat under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) for the Dixie Valley toad.

Critical habitat consists of areas necessary for the survival of an ESA-protected species. Activities conducted in these areas can be subject to regulation under the ESA.

Approximately 930 acres (376 hectares) in Churchill County, Nevada, fall within the boundaries of the proposed critical habitat designation.

FWS has certified that the proposed critical habitat designation will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small business entities.

Comments on the proposed rule are due July 29, 2024. Requests for a public hearing must be received by July 15, 2024.
