BLM Requests Comments on Proposed Rule to add Conservation as a Land Use Activity

On April 3, 2023, the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) published a proposed rule to add conservation as a “use” within the framework of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act. According to BLM the proposed rule does not prioritize conservation over other land uses, rather it puts conservation activities on “equal footing” with other uses. BLM certified that the rule will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities but did not otherwise provide a factual basis for its certification.

Written comments on the proposed rule are due by June 20, 2023.
