APHIS Seeks Comments on Plans to Strengthen Regulations for the Handling of Wild and Exotic Animals for Exhibition

On January 9, 2023, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal, Plant and Health Inspection Service (APHIS) published an advance notice of proposed rulemaking and request for comments concerning the handling of wild and exotic animals for exhibition. APHIS seeks to establish standards for training of personnel involved in the handling of these animals, as well as standards for environmental enrichment for various species. The agency has outlined a list of several questions for which it seeks comments and feedback.  Written comments are due by March 10, 2023.
