Advocacy Economist Guest Blogs for Department of Labor

By Rebecca Krafft, Senior Editor

The Office of Advocacy recently published an issue brief by our Regulatory Economist Michael McManus providing a comprehensive look at the status of women-owned businesses in the United States. Beyond showing the large contributions of women-owned businesses, the issue brief also analyzes the industry distribution and characteristics of these businesses. The research utilizes new software to create several interactive graphics to provide additional detail. Check out the Women’s Business Ownership full report.

After receiving the report, the Department of Labor’s Women’s Bureau invited McManus to write a guest blog on the topic. McManus recently participated on a panel with the deputy director of the Women’s Bureau, Joan Harrigan-Farrelly, discussing the importance of women entrepreneurs and their contribution to the economy. The Department of Labor’s Women’s Bureau and the Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy both advocate on behalf of women as business owners and in the labor force.

McManus’ guest blog on DOL’s website was posted today. You can find it on DOL’s blog: https://blog.dol.gov/2017/07/05/get-facts-women-business-owners
