National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence Seeks Comments on 5G Cybersecurity Executive Summary

What: On March 18, 2025, the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), part of the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), released its 5G Cybersecurity executive summary.

Why: NCCoE aims to address challenges in safety standards for the underlying component of 5G networks. The key recommendations are:

  1. Design and operate 5G systems’ complex cloud technology stacks so they support advanced cybersecurity and privacy capabilities and design principles.
  2. Enable and properly configure the optional, standardized 5G cybersecurity and privacy features specified by 3GPP.

Small businesses may not have enough clarity in the provided resources or are unable to upgrade technology standards with current capital to achieve the 5G Cybersecurity goals.
