EPA Requests Comments on Formaldehyde and Paraformaldehyde Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment
On April 19, 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a notice in the Federal Register requesting comments on the draft human health and ecological risk assessments for the registration review of formaldehyde and paraformaldehyde.
Registration review pursuant to the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) is EPA’s periodic review of pesticide registrations to ensure that each pesticide continues to satisfy the statutory standard for registration. EPA’s goal is to ensure the pesticide can perform its intended function without unreasonable adverse effects on human health or the environment.
The draft risk assessment may be of interest to a wide range of stakeholders including environmental, human health, worker rights advocates; the chemical industry; pesticide users; and members of the public interested in the sale, distribution, or use of pesticides.
Comments are due on the draft risk assessment by June 18, 2024.
