AMS Seeks Comments on Rulemakings Regarding Poultry Grower Tournament Systems and Contracting
On June 8, 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) published an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) regarding poultry growing tournament systems. The purpose of the ANPRM is to obtain information on the industry and assess areas where unfairness is present and how it can be remedied. AMS is soliciting comments and data regarding the use of tournament systems.
Additionally on June 8, 2022, AMS published a proposed rule on poultry grower contracting and tournament systems. The Packers and Stockyards Act provides existing disclosure requirements for poultry contracting. Larger capital investments are now required in the poultry industry, which has increased the information that growers need when contracting. The proposed rule would revise the information and disclosures that live poultry dealers are required to provide and would also create additional disclosure requirements regarding poultry grower ranking systems.
Written comments on the ANPRM are due by September 9, 2022.
Written comments on the proposed rule are by due August 8, 2022.
