USDA Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Receive Input on Development of Animal Welfare Standards for Birds

On August 20, 2020, the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) published a notification of public meeting announcing virtual listening sessions to receive input on the development of animal welfare standards for non-research birds. APHIS seeks input on a number of questions including what if any exemptions the agency should consider, licensing requirements, performance-based standards that can be established, and how to avoid interference with biological activities of birds. The sessions will take place on September 29, 2020 at 11 a.m., October 7, 2020 at 2 p.m., and October 15, 2020 at 5 p.m. (all Eastern time).
