Advocacy to Hold Roundtables Across the United States to Hear from Small Businesses

Outreach Meetings on Trade Agreements with Japan, EU, and UK in
Ohio and Washington, DC

The Office of Advocacy is interested in receiving feedback from small businesses and their representatives regarding their views on trade agreements being negotiated with Japan, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, and their experience doing business in these markets. Advocacy is conducting outreach to small businesses across the U.S. to better understand important small business concerns regarding trade with these markets and how trade agreements would impact small businesses.

Small Business Roundtables on the Definition of Waters of the United States (WOTUS) in Colorado and Florida

Advocacy is hosting two roundtables to discuss the Army Corps and EPA’s Proposed Rule to Revise the Definition of Waters of the United States. On February 14, 2019, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published a proposed rule to revise the definition of waters of the United States (WOTUS). The rule outlines those bodies of water that are subject to federal jurisdiction and therefore require permits in order to conduct activities within those waters. The purpose of the roundtable will be to hear directly from small businesses about the proposed rule.

Small Business Roundtables on the Labor Department’s New Overtime Rules in Alabama, Washington, DC, and Florida

Advocacy is hosting three roundtables to discuss DOL’s new Overtime Regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act, which increases the minimum salary for the “white collar” overtime exemption from $23,660 annually to $35,308 annually. The purpose of the roundtables is to hear directly from small businesses about the impact of the proposed rule. Comments on the rule are due mid-May 2019.
